On this Earth Day, EarthCon celebrates the use of trees and grasses to meet the needs of clients around the country. Trees and grasses can be used to cap former waste disposal areas, clean up heavy metals or other
contaminants in soil, and assist in controlling groundwater contaminant plumes. Called phytoremediation, phyto caps, or phyto plots, these systems have the added benefits of requiring no outside energy inputs to operate, offset carbon usage, and just plain look nice! In some cases, our clients have used a mix of trees and other plantings to not only assist in addressing their site, but to also develop certified wildlife habitat. The use of these and other natural systems continue to be a strong approach in the experienced environmental professional’s toolbox.
